This week is the introduction week for the second year. This assignment was something different, away from the computer. We needed to make some art from recycled materials and write an artist statement.

Artist Statement

Lighting up candles with matches is something that I’ve always done. You get the right amount of smell from the match that just give you that nice feeling. And then you get to have burning candles that gives you that peaceful and powerful feeling of watching a tiny candle flame illuminate the space around you, giving that warm and nice illumination.

I’ve always put the burnt matches in yar since I like the color of it and I think it’s fascinating to see how many I use every year. And by reusing these burnt matches into these 3 art pieces was a good way to reuse them instead of throwing them in the garbage. I also wanted to make something out of them so I could use it as art pieces in my home, so adding symmetric pattern and some golden paint made this to the right art piece for me.
